Heading to Washington
Ferrell signed a one-year contract with the Commanders on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Ferrell spent the 2023 campaign with the 49ers, appearing in all 17 of the team's regular-season contests while producing 28 tackles and 3.5 sacks. The defensive end was forced to miss the team's run to the Super Bowl due to a knee injury, but he'll look to pick up where he left off as he begins his time in Washington.

Could shift inside
Ferrell could be moved to defensive tackle this season, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The fourth overall pick in the 2019 Draft has been a massive disappointment so far in his NFL career, managing only eight sacks in 42 games over three seasons. Ferrell had the fifth-year option on his rookie contract declined this offseason, and the Raiders had the 25-year-old lining up inside during last week's minicamp rather than coming off the edge. Additional versatility can't hurt his chances of earning snaps and drawing interest as a free agent next year, but Ferrell seems unlikely to make much of an impact in 2022, regardless of what position he plays.

The 2019 fourth-overall pick didn't start a single game and ultimately played a career-low 248 defensive snaps in 16 contests last season, foreshadowing his fifth-year option being declined by the Raiders' new front office this offseason. In what could be his final campaign as a Raider, Ferrell is slated to provide depth at defensive end behind Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones in 2022.
