DraftKings Fantasy Soccer: Saturday-Sunday Gold Cup Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings Fantasy Soccer series.

MATCHES (EDT)

Saturday, 10:00 p.m: United States v. Costa Rica
Sunday, 9:00 p.m: Jamaica v. Mexico

PLAYER RECOMMENDATIONS

GOALKEEPER

Tim Howard, USA v. CRC ($5,300): The final is expected to be USA-Mexico, as it has been over the years, so the choice of goalkeepers gets narrowed down to Howard and Jesus Corona, or whoever starts in net for El Tri. Jamaica looked dangerous against Canada, with all of the tools needed to achieve a huge upset over Mexico. The Reggae Boyz earned a draw against Mexico in the group stage, and the pressure will certainly be on El Tri on Sunday. These factors leave Howard as the top chalk option on the two-day slate.

DEFENDER

Kemar Lawrence, JAM v. MEX ($5,300): Lawrence has been declining in fantasy production since his fantasy outburst in the opening round, but he is by far the top defender in the slate. He takes some of Jamaica's set pieces, which guarantees that he sends in at least a few crosses, and his streaking runs up the left wing allow for opportunities for more points.

Jorge Villafana, USA v. CRC ($5,200): Villafana was rested in the quarterfinals, with Justin Morrow starting at left-back. The previous match was just three days ago, so it is unlikely that Morrow starts again. Villafana should start against Costa Rica, and he has some very tall targets in the box to aim for in Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey.

Alvas Powell, JAM v. MEX ($3,900): This is the first time in a long while that Powell is below $4,000. He has managed to take a shot in each of his first four Gold Cup matches, and he is guaranteed to win at least a tackle or two. He is a real bargain at this price, even against a formidable Mexico side.

MIDFIELDER

Elias Hernandez, MEX v. JAM ($11,200): Hernandez has been a lock all tournament long. He should start against the Reggae Boyz, and if so, he is a sure lock again for this two-game slate.

Clint Dempsey, USA v. CRC ($9,700): Dempsey is still one behind Landon Donovan for the most goals of all time for the U.S. men's national team. He has been one goal away for a few games now, and certainly he is chomping at the bit to fire the Americans into the final.

Kellyn Acosta, USA v. CRC ($7,000): Acosta did not start the last match, but he should return to the starting XI on Saturday. Darlington Nagbe started in the middle of the field alongside Michael Bradley, which is not his natural position. Although he fared well in his central role, it is likely that he moves to the left midfield position to make room for Acosta in the middle of the pitch. If this is the case, Acosta will take all of the United States' set pieces.

FORWARD

Jozy Altidore, USA v. CRC ($8,800): Altidore will start up top with Dempsey to form the front line for the Americans. The goals are expected to come from these two players, and in a slate where it is hard to find any sure plays, it may be wise to roll the dice with one or two of the U.S. forwards.

Darren Mattocks, JAM v. MEX ($6,100): Mattocks stole the show against Canada. His blinding speed was too much for the Canadian back line, as they were on their heels the entire match while he made runs behind the back line. He has been the main man for the Reggae Boyz all tournament, and if Jamaica has any shot at advancing, Mattocks will likely have to be the player to score.

Romario Williams, JAM v. MEX ($5,300): Williams scored a stunner against Canada. He and Mattocks really have some wheels, which gives Jamaica a fighter's chance of advancing, with a park-the-bus method and break on the counter.
