Takes opener in Sao Paulo
LightweightUFC
November 4, 2023
Diakiese defeated Kaue Fernandes via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
The loser of back-to-back fights and likely fighting for his job, Diakiese leaned on his wrestling in what ended up being a pretty clear victory despite the fact one of the three judges inexplicably scored the fight for Fernandes. He fired off eight takedown attempts, landing three, good for 8:38 worth of control time. He got stronger as the fight progressed, while the debuting Fernandes faded. Diakiese is still below .500 (3-4) in his past seven fights dating back to July 2020.

Referee error leads to loss

Diakiese lost to Joel Alvarez via submission (Brabo choke) at 4:26 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
It goes in the books as a submission defeat for Diakiese at the moment, but there's a real chance this one will be changed to a no-contest following the inevitable appeal that is forthcoming. The heads of the two men collided following a takedown attempt from Alvarez in the latter stages of Round 2. Diakiese immediately motioned to the referee, but Dan Movahedi signaled to continue. Marc was clearly damaged from the blow and found himself tapping out moments later. Appealing fights in mixed martial arts is rarely a successful endeavor, but Diakiese has a case here. It's clear as day the result was the direct result of the accidental clash of heads.
Alvarez fight scheduled

Diakiese will fight Joel Alvarez in a lightweight bout at UFC London on July 22, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Now, Diakiese has his first opportunity to redeem himself after losing to Michael Johnson at UFC on ESPN 42. Compared to Alvarez, who will be fighting for the first time in over 15 months, Diakiese has a better track record in terms of logging wins via KO/TKO (six) or decision (nine).
Inactivity leads to crushing loss

Diakiese lost to Michael Johnson via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC on ESPN 42 on Saturday in Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Prioritizing putting on a show instead of trying to win a fight, Diakiese deserved this defeat. He was fine in the opening round, firing off some volume and connecting on 60 percent (23-38) of his significant strikes, before standing around and doing nothing over the course of the final ten minutes. Entering a -330 favorite and facing an opponent that had lost five of his previous six fights, it's not a stretch to term this a career-altering defeat for the soon-to-be 30-year-old "Bonecrusher." You simply can't give away bouts such as this on at this level.

Diakiese will take on Michael Johnson at the UFC event on Dec. 3, MMA beat writer Al Zullino reports.
ANALYSIS
Diakiese is sporting a 7-5 record with the UFC after his most recent victory back in July against Damir Hadzovic. Johnson has really be struggling the last few years, posting just one victory in his last six fights.
