Alves left the UFC and signed with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship on Wednesday, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Alves was expected to leave the UFC after his contract wound down following his loss to Tim Means in December. The 36-year-old appears to be past his prime, losing four of his last five matches and six of his last eight.

Loses as UFC contract expires

Alves lost to Tim Means via submission (Guillotine Choke) at 2:38 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Washington D.C.
ANALYSIS
Alves' inability to defend himself on the feet was again his undoing. Allowing Means to land essentially everything he threw, the Brazilian never had a prayer of getting to his offense. Alves was a decent fighter back in the day, but he has been a shell of his former self for years. Sporting a 1-4 record in his past five fights dating back to April 2017, Alves is clearly nearing the end of the line if he isn't there already. This was apparently the last fight on his UFC contract and there is little reason for the company to bring him back. "The Pitbull" has been with the UFC for more than 14 years. His company debut came against Spencer Fisher at UFC Fight Night 2 on October 3, 2005.

Alves (infection) will square off against Tim Means at UFC DC on Dec. 7, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Alves was forced to withdraw from UFC Copenhagen in mid-September due to an infection that ultimately led to kidney stones. The 36-year-old fighter looks to be on the downswing of his career, having lost five of his last seven and three of his last four bouts in the cage. He'll square off against another fighter in Means whose in a similar boat, entering December's bout with three defeats in his last four fights.

Alves withdrew from UFC Copenhagen on Thursday due to an infection, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alves said his infection led to kidney stones, and he is eyeing a return to the octagon around November or December. The UFC is attempting to find a replacement fighter to go up against Gunnar Nelson despite the withdrawal on short notice.

Alves will square off against Gunnar Nelson at UFC Copenhagen on Sept. 28.
ANALYSIS
Alves enters having lost three of his last four fights (two via unanimous decision), having waited too long to turn up the heat against Laureano Staropoli at UFC 237. He will face another struggling fighter in Gunnar Nelson, who will look to take Alves to the mat and presumably employ a submission attempt (Nelson averages one per 15 minutes). Alves, on the other hand, face a tough position of giving up two inches of both height and reach to Nelson while also looking to keep the fight upright and landing a barrage of significant strikes.

Alves lost to Laureano Staropoli via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC 237 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
The struggles of Alves continue. On Saturday, he appeared to try to let his opponent lead the dance before turning up the pace in Round 3. Unfortunately for the Brazilian, Staropoli's cardio held up and he was saddled with his third loss in his last four fights. The 35-year-old Alves is in bad shape moving forward. His finishing power has evaporated, and he is getting hit more than ever. Alves is miles and miles from impacting the title picture at 170 pounds.
