Lopez has been given a six-month medical suspension for a left infraorbital wall fracture and a right hand fracture unless he's cleared by a doctor before then, Farah Hannoun of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lopez has a mandatory 45-day suspension and 30 days without contact, but there's a chance he could return before the 180 days are up if cleared early. He still managed to piece together a unanimous draw against Heili Alateng on Saturday.

Fights Heili Alateng to draw
BantamweightOther
September 18, 2021
Lopez and Heili Alateng fought to a unanimous draw (28-28, 28-28, 28-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Lopez would have lost had Alateng not be docked a point by referee Keith Peterson for repeated fence grabs in Round 3. It's a tough result considering there's a real case to be made that he deserved a 29-27 victory. Neither man generated much on the feet throughout the course of the fight, but Lopez's three successful takedowns were arguably the highlight of the bout. Still, he could do no better than a draw, and needed help from the referee just to get to that point. The 32-year-old Washington native remains below .500 (1-2-1) in the UFC.

Lopez will take on Heili Alateng in a bantamweight bout at the UFC event Sept. 18, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Lopez is coming off a knockout defeat to Adrian Yanez back in March. Prior to that he submitted Anthony Birchak in November of 2020. Alateng will be making his first appearance in the Octagon since October of 2020 when he lost to Casey Kenney by unanimous decision.
Dropped by Adrian Yanez

March 20, 2021
Lopez lost to Adrian Yanez via KO (punch) at 0:27 in round 3 at UFC Vegas 22 on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The two combatants felt one another out for the first half of Round 1. However, Yanez takes the end of the round by hurting Lopez with some sharp straight punches. Yanez has more success in Round 2 landing power counters which hurt Lopez. Within the first few exchanges of Round 3, Yanez hurts Lopez with a big punch and knocked Lopez out cold. Yanez controlled the fight from start to finish as he proved to be the superior striker in the standup affair.
To fight Yanez on March 20
BantamweightOther
December 7, 2020
Lopez will fight Adrian Yanez in a bantamweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for March 20, MMA Island reports.
ANALYSIS
This will be Lopez's first match since defeating Anthony Birchak via submission (rear-naked choke) in Round 1 at UFC on ESPN+ 40 in Las Vegas on Nov. 7. Lopez's counterpart, Yanez, will also be coming into the match having won his previous fight against Victor Rodriguez via KO at UFC Fight Night on Halloween. Lopez currently maintains a 12-5-0 MMA record.
Secures choke against former teammate
BantamweightOther
November 7, 2020
Lopez submitted Anthony Birchak via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:43 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN+ 40 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The two former training partners exchanged shots early, but Lopez saw more success in the wrestling game. After recording his second takedown, Lopez started going to work with ground-and-pound from Birchak's back and eventually softened him up enough to flatten him out and get the choke. After dropping his UFC debut to the always-dangerous Merab Dvalishvili, Lopez has evened his record out at 1-1, and the 31-year-old will look to build on that momentum his next time out.
