Second straight stoppage loss
LightweightOther
November 11, 2023
Madsen lost to Jared Gordon via TKO (strikes) at 4:42 of Round 1 at UFC 295 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Madsen was in desperate need of a bounce-back performance following his submission defeat -- the first of his pro career -- to Grant Dawson last November, and he didn't get it. The entirety of Round 1 was close and competitive, with neither man pulling away, at which point Madsen was dropped by a pair of short shots from Gordon with just seconds to go in the frame. Madsen's exploits in the wrestling world are well known, but at the age of 39 and the loser of two straight, the odds are against him making any sort of run in the UFC.

Madsen will compete against Jared Gordon at UFC 295 in New York City on Nov. 11, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Madsen will have gone over a year without fighting since his pro loss via submission at the hands of Grant Dawson. However, Madsen still sports a 12-1 record that makes him a legitimate threat against the younger Gordon.
Suffers first pro defeat

November 5, 2022
Madsen lost to Grant Dawson via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:05 of Round 3 at UFC FIght Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
To say this was a highly concerning performance from Madsen would be an understatement. Yes, Dawson missed weight by two and a half pounds, but that doesn't excuse Madsen's effort. We have seen in his brief UFC run that Mark's offense is virtually non-existent if he is unable to get his wrestling game going. He never got that opportunity here because he spent the entire fight being controlled by Dawson on the mat. Madsen is miles behind where he needs to be, experience-wise, with just 13 professional fights under his belt at age 38. This was his first career defeat, and it came against a heavy opponent, so it is my no means the end of the world, but Madsen is going to have to make some real adjustments in order to compete with better competition moving forward.
Opponent misses weight

Madsen will receive a fraction of Grant Dawson's purse for Saturday's lightweight bout after Dawson missed weight Friday, Alex Behunin of MMA mania reports.
ANALYSIS
Dawson weighed in at 157.5 pounds Friday, one and a half pounds over the lightweight limit. The UFC is still trying to determine the percentage of Dawson's purse that Madsen will receive, but it sounds like the fight will proceed as scheduled. Madsen is 4-0 since joining the UFC and will look to extend his win streak to five against Dawson on Saturday.
Gets quick replacement opponent

October 19, 2022
Madsen will now take on Grant Dawson in a lightweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Nov. 5, Raphael Marinho of Combate.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Madsen has started his UFC run with a perfect 4-0 record, and had been set to put his undefeated pro record on the line against another red-hot fighter in Drakkar Klose. Unfortunately, Klose had to withdraw due to unspecified reasons, but the UFC quickly turned to Dawson to fill in. Similar to Madsen, Dawson is a high-volume wrestler, though he only defends takedowns at a 40 percent clip himself. Dawson is also much more active in hunting submissions through his seven-fight UFC run, over which he has amassed a 6-0-1 record. Madsen does have the slight edge in striking volume, however is Dawson is a much younger fighter and will enter with a two-inch height advantage. Both men sport a 72-inch reach.
