Quickly finished in title fight

Hill came up short in his quest to regain the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on Saturday, falling to Alex Pereira via KO (punches) at 3:14 of Round 1 at UFC 300 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Looking back on it, Hill was in a near-impossible situation here. He was coming off a significant injury in a ruptured Achilles, accepted this bout on relatively short notice and was facing a stone-cold killer. The two men fought on even terms early on before Hill got clipped with a shot that didn't appear to land with all that much authority, but that's the power Pereira has. Jamahal crumbled to the mat and was finished after a handful of follow-up shots. Set to turn 33 years of age, Hill entered having won four in a row. This is his first loss since June 2021. He should remain in the title conversation in a thin light heavyweight division for the foreseeable future.

To return at UFC 300
Light HeavyweightUFC
February 17, 2024
Hill (Achilles) will take on Alex Pereira for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in the main event of UFC 300 on April 13 in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White reported via his personal X account.
ANALYSIS
Hill became champion in his first shot at UFC gold back in January of 2023 against Glover Teixeira in a fight in which he dominated the striking numbers and won his fourth consecutive post-fight bonus. Unfortunately, a ruptured Achilles has left him unable to defend his belt for over a year, resulting in the UFC stripping his title and putting it up for grabs in a matchup between Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka last November. Pereira won that fight via second-round TKO, and his first title defense will rightfully be against Hill. This has all the makings of a stand-up affair, as neither combatant has much of a wrestling game to speak of. Look for fireworks in the main event of the UFC's monumental card, and expect Hill to enter as a betting underdog given the time off.
Suffers ruptured Achilles
Light HeavyweightUFC
July 14, 2023
Hill announced Friday that he will require surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hill, who claimed the UFC Light Heavyweight Title in January, will relinquish his title as he undergoes surgery and completes a prolonged recovery process. The 32-year-old allegedly suffered the injury during a basketball game earlier this month with other MMA fighters ahead of UFC 290 in Las Vegas. Hill is unlikely to make a full recovery from surgery for 6-to-8 months, at a minimum.
New UFC Light Heavyweight Champion
Light HeavyweightUFC
January 21, 2023
Hill became the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion on Saturday, defeating Glover Teixeira via unanimous decision (50-44, 50-44, 50-44) at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
This was a highly impressive performance from Hill on countless levels. For starters, he didn't have a full training camp, as this fight was announced not all that long ago. He appeared cool, calm, and collected on by far the biggest stage of his career. He battered Teixeira from bell-to-bell, with the toughness of Glover being the sole reason this fight lasted the entire 25 minutes, Hill didn't overextended himself, he picked his spots, and his cardio held up. Oh, he also stuffed 15-of-17 Teixeira takedown attempts. Basically, all the concerns people had regarding Jamahal were answered here against a future Hall of Famer. It was a complete effort from a highly talented fighter. With the win, Hill becomes the first alum of the Dana White Contender Series to win a UFC belt. The scary thing is that Hill has just 13 professional fights under his belt. He should only continue to get better. On top of that, he'll take home an extra $50,000 bonus after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
Taking on Glover Teixeira for title
Light HeavyweightUFC
December 11, 2022
Hill will face Glover Teixeira for the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 283 on Jan. 21 in Brazil, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hill was slated to fight Anthony Smith in the main event at UFC's March 11 card, but he'll instead get a shot at the light heavyweight belt, which was left vacant after Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev fought to a split draw Saturday. Teixeira lost the title to Jiri Prochazka in June with the pair scheduled for a rematch, but that fight was called off after Prochazka dropped out with a shoulder injury. Teixeira will now receive a chance to reclaim the belt against Hill, who is coming off a win over Thiago Santos in August and has won three consecutive bouts.
