Aleksandar Rakic

Austria

Finished in return from long layoff
Light HeavyweightUFC
April 13, 2024
Rakic lost to Jiri Prochazka via TKO (strikes) at 3:17 of Round 2 at UFC 300 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Fighting for the first time in nearly two years, Rakic looked excellent up until the finishing sequence. He made a point to damage Prochazka with leg kicks, something Jiri's previous opponent, Alex Pereira, did brilliantly. Yet, it was clear from the very start that Prochazka wasn't concerned with the power from Rakic coming back his way. As a result, he continued to push forward and eventually blitzed his opponent, leading to the finish. All in all, it was an encouraging return for Rakic given all the time away and the level of opposition he was facing. His next challenge will be to return to the win column his next time out.

December 22, 2023
Rakic is scheduled to face Jiri Prochazka in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 300 in Las Vegas on April 13, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Rakic has drawn Jiri Prochazka for his next bout, which figures to be a massively hyped-up event. The 31-year-old Austrian fighter, fresh off a loss to Jan Blachowicz, maintains a relatively untarnished 6-2 record during his time within the UFC, but he will have his hands full in a showdown with Prochazka.

Rakic will not fight Jan Blachowicz at UFC 297 on Jan. 20, according to Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
Jan Blachowicz withdrew from the fight and will undergo shoulder surgery. Rakic has called out Jiri Prochazka in response, but it may be highly unlikely the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion accepts said proposal after coming up short against Alex Pereira at UFC 295 less than one month ago.

ANALYSIS
Rakic tore his ACL while fighting Blachowicz in May 2022, and has been held out of action since then. Now that he's healthy, Rakic will get another shot at Blachowicz and look to improve to 7-2 within the UFC.

May 16, 2022
Rakic has been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee following Saturday night's fight against Jan Blachowicz, MMA reporter Ariel Helwani reports.
ANALYSIS
This is another blow for Rakic, who took the loss via TKO during Round 3 at UFC ESPN 36 on Saturday in Vegas. Per Helwani, Rakic will require surgery on his right knee, but it has yet to be scheduled. It's worth noting that Rakic has already torn the ACL in his left knee on two separate occasions.
Knee injury results in loss
Light HeavyweightUFC
May 14, 2022
Rakic lost to Jan Blachowicz via TKO (injury stoppage) at 1:11 of Round 3 at UFC on ESPN 36 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing result for Rakic in a fight which was legitimately either man's for the taking. In what was primarily expected to be a striking battle, Rakic struggled to find his range on the feet in Round 1, landing just 12-of-52 total strikes. He was considerably more effective in Round 2 on the strength of a takedown which resulted in him spending nearly the entire round (4:32) in top position. With the fight tied a round apiece, Rakic took a step backwards early in the third frame and saw his right knee completely give out. It was clear he was seriously injured and referee Mark Smith immediately stepped in. While the loss is obviously less than ideal, the injury is a larger long-term concern for Rakic. He turned 30 years of age this past February and is just 2-2 in his past four fights. Although the two defeats were this one due to injury and a split decision against Volkan Oezdemir. Rakic's next move will be determined by how long this knee issue forces him to the sidelines.
