Matthew Knies

Matthew Knies

21-Year-Old Left WingLW
Toronto Maple Leafs
2023 Fantasy Outlook
The top prospect in the Toronto system, Knies signed with the Leafs following the completion of his sophomore season (21 goals, 42 points in 40 games) at the University of Minnesota. He had one assist in three appearances for Toronto late in the year and played well in seven playoff games (one goal, four points) before a concussion ended his season. The Leafs added Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi in free agency this offseason, but the club is still expected to find a spot for Knies in their top-nine come training camp. Read Past Outlooks

Pots OT winner in Game 5
LWToronto Maple Leafs
May 1, 2024
Knies scored the game-winning goal Tuesday in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Bruins in Game 5.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old winger pounced on a rebound early in the first OT period after John Tavares had driven the Boston net and tried to jam home the puck. It was the second goal of the playoffs for Knies, but those represent his only two points in five games. If Auston Matthews (illness) isn't able to return for Thursday's Game 6, Knies may have to come up big again in order for the Leafs to avoid elimination again.
