Surovy last appeared in the NHL back in 2005-06 when he logged 53 games for the Penguins. In his 126 career contests with Pittsburgh, the 37-year-old notched 27 goals and 32 helpers. After captaining the Slovakian squad at the 2018 Winter Olympics, the winger will bring his career to a close.

Tomas Survoy was acquired in the off-season by way of Free Agency. Last season, Survoy was a part of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise and saw time with Penguins and its AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In 53 games with the Penguins, he scored 12 goals with 13 assists for a minus 12 rating. In 25 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton team, he scored 16 goals with 12 assits for a plus 11 rating. It was difficult for Survoy to find the needed ice time with the Penguins because of their young superstars in Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, and Sidney Crosby, but in Phoenix, he could become a valuable player and offer some solid production.
Surovy signed with a team in the Swedish league for the 2006 season. He was woefully inconsistent in his time with Pittsburgh.
Surovy has the offensive skills to play in the NHL, but he's been more of a tease up to this point in his career. The 24-year-old left winger might be worth a midseason callup, but it's doubtful he'll have much value at the beginning of the year. He totaled 23 points (11,12) in 47 games for Pittsburgh in 2003-04, but probably won't make the team out of camp with the influx of free agents.
