Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday-Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

The Stars and Golden Knights didn't have a game decided by a perfect netminder in Game 3, but this series is likely still tailored towards outstanding goaltending. Meanwhile, the Islanders hit back in Game 3 and now have a chance to tie the series during Sunday's matinee matchup. The Yahoo Sportsbooks believes both will be low-scoring affairs with a 5.5 O/U, and Dallas (+140) is considered the biggest underdog.

GOALIE

Robin Lehner, VGK vs. DAL ($31): It was a dud for Lehner on Thursday night, as he allowed three goals on just 23 shots, but the last three times he let up three or more goals in a game, he followed it up with a shutout. Lehner seems to bounce back well under pressure, and while a shutout may not be in store, he's a wise play as the Golden Knights look to even the series.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Andrei Vasilevskiy, TB vs. NYI ($35): Vasilevskiy wasn't on top of his game Friday night, as he failed to track a few pucks and was hung out to dry a couple of times. The Islanders deserve credit for keeping up with the Lightning all game, however, and they won't give Vasilevskiy a chance to get his footing in Game 4.

CENTER

Jean-Gabriel Pageau, NYI vs. TB ($18): Pageau's two-point surge Friday night was no fluke, as he leads the Islanders with 2.98 xGF/60 over the past five games, per Natural Stat Trick. The pivot carries an appealing floor due to his shot volume and willingness to block pucks, but he's otherwise considered a high-risk, high reward play due to third-line minutes. However, with Vasilevskiy looking a bit off, fire up Pageau while he's hot.

CENTER TO AVOID

Tyler Seguin, DAL vs. VGK ($21): Seguin broke his six-game pointless streak with a helper Friday, but unlike Pageau, he's been in a slump lately with just 1.59 xGF/60 in the same span. It could be that Seguin's wrist is giving him issues, but even with consistent shot volume, he doesn't seem to have the upside to warrant his current DFS salary.

WING

Ondrej Palat, TB vs. NYI ($20): Palat has posted a point in all but one game since the start of the second round, and he recorded a plus-9 rating and 30 shots over those eight games. He logs consistent minutes in the top six as well, and although he may be moved from Nikita Kucherov's line with Alex Killorn returning from suspension, Palat has generated enough offense on his own to remain a value.

Chandler Stephenson, VGK vs. DAL ($10): Stephenson is technically on the third line, but a typical third line doesn't feature Mark Stone, who has 17 points in 18 postseason games. That surely makes Stephenson a boom-or-bust play, but you can roster him at such a bargain salary that it's worth taking a flier to spend up elsewhere.

WINGS TO AVOID

Anthony Beauvillier, NYI vs. TB ($18): Beauvillier's line is a bit unheralded, but the Lightning have taken notice and made every attempt to shut it down. As a result, the winger has just 1.39 xGF/60 in the series. He came through with a two-point night Friday, so it's a good time to fade Beauvillier with a high chance of regression Sunday.

Denis Gurianov, DAL vs. VGK ($17): Gurianov's on a bit of a cold streak, and he's being deployed in a checking role, logging less than 13 minutes of ice time Thursday. Although he's showcased his upside this postseason, Gurianov hasn't been producing a ton of chances with just 2.26 xGF/60 over the past five contests, and the little power-play time he does get still comes against the top remaining penalty kill (88.9 percent).

DEFENSE

Shea Theodore, VGK vs. DAL ($24): Theodore leads the Golden Knights with 18 points in as many games this postseason, and he averages four shots on net per game. He's been one of the most consistent fantasy producers on any blue line due to his two-way game, and both of his points this series have come on the power play as an added bonus.

Victor Hedman, TB vs. NYI ($23): Hedman went pointless in the Lightning's first loss since Aug. 23, but expect the Norris winner to bounce back. He found the back of the net in each of the previous four contests while adding three assists and a plus-8 rating along the way. Hedman drives offense on the power play as well, and although he's on the second unit, the door's open anyway since the Islanders' penalty kill (77.8 percent) is quite suspect.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

John Klingberg, DAL vs. VGK ($19): Klingberg is a fixture in the top four, but the production hasn't followed. He's actually been damaging for fantasy rosters, notching just two shots on net and a minus-1 rating in this series. The ceiling on this blue line belongs to Miro Heiskanen ($18), so don't pay up for Klingberg.

Alec Martinez, VGK vs. DAL ($18): Martinez has gone pointless in six straight games, and while his salary is still somewhat reasonable, the ceiling is collapsing, as he's logged less than 19 minutes in each of the last two contests. His shot volume has been flaky this series too, with just four shots thus far, so steer clear of the formerly steady fantasy asset.
