Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

What's in the box labeled "Tuesday" this week? How about 11 NHL games? You have a lot of options for your daily fantasy lineup. To try and make your decisions easier, here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your DFS roster.

GOALIE

Jonas Johansson, BUF vs. DET ($23): Carter Hutton ($28) missed Buffalo's last game for personal reasons, so just in case he isn't back I'm recommending Johansson. If Hutton is back, then I'll go with him. It's all about the matchup here. Detroit, the NHL's clear worst team, has only averaged 2.02 goals and 27.5 shots on net per game.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. NYR ($29): Hellebucyk has put up impressive numbers (2.67 GAA, .920 save percentage), but he's had to stand on his head to do that. The Jets have allowed 33.1 shots on net per game, and even Hellebuyck hasn't been able to salvage their penalty kill, which ranks 28th. The Rangers give up a ton of shots too, but they also score 3.26 goals per game, which is what's concerning here.

CENTER

Mathew Barzal, NYI vs. PHI ($23): Taking on his biggest role yet for the Islanders, Barzal has tallied 45 points in 54 games. While the Islanders are on the second night of a back-to-back, so are the Flyers, and the Flyers are the ones who are on the road. Philly has been bafflingly bad away from home, posting a 3.67 GAA that's second highest in the NHL.

CENTER TO AVOID

Brayden Point, TAM at PIT ($28): How dare I recommend avoiding the red-hot Point? Well, for starters, he's on the road for the second game of a back-to-back. That'll make it tricky enough for him to pay off at this price. If that wasn't enough, Tristan Jarry has a 2.18 GAA and .929 save percentage for the Penguins.

WING

Sam Reinhart, BUF vs. DET ($18): This is a great matchup that would be excellent to try and exploit, but unfortunately the Sabres have basically no depth. Still, at least Reinhart is available. He's notched 45 points in 56 games. The most important thing to know, though, is that the Wings have a 4.11 GAA on the road.

Blake Coleman, NJD vs. FLA ($17): It's easy to overlook Coleman in New Jersey, but after scoring 22 goals last season he has 21 this year in 54 games. He's also shooting a ton, as he's put 175 shots on goal, and his role is bigger now that Taylor Hall is gone. As for the Panthers, they have a bottom-five GAA as a team, and they are also on the road for the second leg of a back-to-back.

WINGS TO AVOID

Andrei Svechnikov, CAR at DAL ($24): There's not much to quibble with when it comes to Svechnikov, but I will say that he only has one power-play point in his last 24 games. I'm also concerned with the daunting task facing the young Russian here. The Stars have a 2.54 GAA, which is third best in the NHL.

Jamie Benn, DAL vs. CAR ($17): The flip side of this matchup doesn't look any better for Dallas. The Hurricanes have a 2.74 GAA, and they've also only allowed 29.0 shots on net per contest. If that's not enough, Carolina has the seventh-ranked penalty kill. The odds are stacked against Benn on Tuesday.

DEFENSE

Shea Theodore, VGK at MIN ($19): If you want to talk about active defensemen, over his last five games Theodore has tallied six points and 22 shots on net. He's also averaged 3:13 per game with the extra man, notching 12 power-play points for good measure. The Wild have the league's worst penalty kill, so that adds up nicely for Theodore.

Ryan Graves, COL vs. OTT ($19): Graves doesn't play on the power play, but that hasn't stopped him from notching 39 points in 53 games. Now he's facing a Senators team with a 3.30 GAA that has also allowed 33.5 shots on net per contest. If you want a little extra fantasy value on top of that, Graves has blocked 117 shots as well.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Victor Hedman, TAM at PIT ($23): Talk about a tough one-two punch. On Monday, Hedman and company were in Columbus taking on the Blue Jackets, who have been hot defensively. Now on Tuesday the Swedish defenseman is in Pittsburgh facing a Penguins team led by Tristan Jarry and his 2.18 GAA and .929 save percentage.

John Klingberg, DAL vs. CAR ($17): You can blame injuries to a degree, but Klingberg only has three goals this season in 44 games. He's also been quite reliant on the power play, where he's notched 13 of his 23 points. Well the Hurricanes have the seventh-ranked penalty kill, so that's a concern for Klingberg.
