Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Wednesday is host to six games, with perhaps the most-anticipated matchup being the Battle of Alberta between the Flames and Oilers. These games are always exciting, but the Zack Kassian-Matthew Tkachuk storyline lifts it to another level. There's plenty of fantasy value in that game as well as the other five, so read on to help set your DFS lineup tonight.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, TOR at DAL ($26): Andersen carries a five-game road winning streak into this contest with a .923 save percentage in that stretch. It could be a goaltending duel between him and Ben Bishop, but the Maple Leafs have the far better offense. Andersen is lined up well for another victory.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Braden Holtby, WAS vs. NSH ($23): Holtby seemed to get back on track with a stellar outing against the Habs on Monday, but it's tough to bite here even at this price tag. The Predators rank third in the league this year with 3.52 goals per road contest -- better than their home split.

CENTER

Sean Monahan, CGY at EDM ($17): Monahan broke a three-game slump with a superb two-goal performance against the Blues on Tuesday, as he seems to be comfortable with his new linemates. He's compiled six points over the last five games versus Edmonton, so look for him to light up the Battle of Alberta once again.

CENTER TO AVOID

Anze Kopitar, LA vs. TB ($20): Kopitar earns these honors not based on his own demerit, although he's gone pointless in three of the last four outings, but because of his opponent. There are no chalky plays against Andrei Vasilevskiy right now, as the netminder has a 1.65 GAA over the last month.

WINGS

Alex Ovechkin, WAS vs. NSH ($35): It's the proper time to spend up for Ovie. He should be fresh after 10 days off, but he piled up eight goals -- two on the power play -- over three games before the All-Star break. Look for him to tee off from his office against the Preds, who rank 29th in January with 12.73 GA/60 on the penalty kill.

J.T. Miller, VAN at SJ ($21): Miller has stacked up four goals and as many assists over the last six games, and he has a solid floor in that stretch with 14 shots on net and a plus-5 rating. Martin Jones, who has yielded nine goals over his last two starts, will be in the opposing crease.

WINGS TO AVOID

Evander Kane, SJ vs. VAN ($21): It's tough to crack Vancouver's traveling penalty kill, which ranks eighth at 81.3 percent. Kane gets over 35 percent of his points with the man advantage, and the Canucks' goaltending has been superb lately anyway, allowing exactly one goal in three straight contests.

Alexander Radulov, DAL vs. TOR ($19): Radulov has just one point over the last eight contests, and he failed to direct a shot on net in three of those games while accruing a minus-3 rating. It's been a tough stretch, and facing off against a stout Andersen makes Radulov an unappealing risk.

DEFENSE

Quinn Hughes, VAN at SJ ($14): The only rookie to participate in the All-Star Game, Hughes has produced four points and 13 shots over the last six games. He has averaged 22:38 of ice time over the last month, and he's notched a point in both games against the Sharks this year.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, ARI at ANH ($13): Ekman-Larsson comes at quite the value here even if he doesn't notch a point. He averages two shots and one blocked shot per game, and he logs time on the first power-play unit. Ekman-Larsson will look to leverage that into a high ceiling, as the Ducks penalty kill ranks 25th in January with 10.23 GA/60.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Tyson Barrie, TOR at DAL ($17): Barrie was touted as a power-play guru when he was acquired by Toronto, but that hasn't come to fruition. He has notched eight of his 28 points with the man advantage, and the sledding won't get easier against Dallas' stout penalty kill (6.25 GA/60 in January).

Jamie Oleksiak, DAL vs. TOR ($17): Oleksiak's pointless streak has reached 15 games, and he's recorded just 25 shots and 15 blocked shots in that stretch. That's a brutal floor in the first place without much ceiling.
