Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There's just two games on the docket Wednesday, but it'll be exciting with the right DFS lineup. The Canadiens will host the Blackhawks in an Original Six showdown as both teams try to salvage their seasons. In the other contest, the Blues will host the Flyers, as Brayden Schenn will face his former team while Brian Elliott and Mike Yeo will return to St. Louis, where the latter was fired as head coach last November.

GOALIE

Jordan Binnington, STL vs. PHI ($32): Binnington is the highest-priced backstop in the light slate, and he's by far the safest bet. The touted netminder hasn't lost at home since Dec. 7, winning seven straight while posting a .926 save percentage, and the Blues have provided plenty of offensive support, ranking fourth with 3.45 GF/60 at home in that stretch, per Natural Stat Trick.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Carey Price, MON vs. CHI ($27): Price has put together two solid wins against the Senators and Flames, but it has been an overall unimpressive season for the veteran, as he's accrued a .907 save percentage and an 18-16-4 record. The Blackhawks have heated up in the new year, as they are eighth with 3.09 GF/60.

CENTER

Brayden Schenn, STL vs. PHI ($20): There isn't a pivot priced higher than $21 in this slate, so Schenn is on the pricier side. He's on a four-game point streak with six helpers in that stretch, and his continued chemistry with Jaden Schwartz fuels the fire. There's a revenge-game stake as well against his former team, and former-Blue Brian Elliott has a 4.50 GAA over the last month.

CENTER TO AVOID

Max Domi, MON vs. CHI ($19): Domi can't seem to get the motor revving again, as he's posted just one point and a minus-4 rating over the past five games. Corey Crawford will be getting the nod on the latter half of back-to-back contests, and he's been solid in 2020 with a 2.37 GAA.

WINGS

Jaden Schwartz, STL vs. PHI ($20): Schwartz is an excellent stack to go along with Schenn, as he's recorded three goals, two helpers and 15 shots on net over six January games. His 53.3 Corsi For percentage is quite encouraging as well.

Dominik Kubalik, CHI at MON ($18): Kubilak is making a push for the Calder conversation. He's up to 18 goals and 10 assists this season, and he's white-hot right now with a six-game point streak where he has 10 points (seven goals, three assists). His work on the power play raises his ceiling further against Montreal's 23rd-ranked penalty kill (78.3 percent).

WINGS TO AVOID

Alexander Steen, STL vs. PHI ($18): Steen was priced at $12 before the calendar flipped, but his cost has risen quickly up with three goals and as many as many assists over the past five contests. He's had excellent success lately, but it's likely unsustainable since he starts 45.2 percent of shifts in the offensive zone while posting a 46.9 Corsi For percentage.

Alex DeBrincat, CHI at MON ($17): DeBrincat has been dropped to the third line, and he's averaged 16:27 of ice time over the last two games. He's carrying the weight on this line, and with less offensive-zone opportunities ahead, it's tough to justify since Price has had success recently.

DEFENSEMEN

Jeff Petry, MON at CHI ($17): Petry carries a three-game assist streak into this game, and he's averaging 2.4 shots on net per contest. The veteran blueliner toils on the first power-play unit as well, and his floor makes him a reasonable option.

Ivan Provorov, PHI at STL ($16): Provorov leads the league's defensemen with six power-play goals, and he's added seven helpers with the man advantage. It's been tough sledding lately, but the Blues' penalty kill has shown weakness over the last month, as it has yielded 9.29 G/60 to opposing power plays -- the highest rate in this slate.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Ben Chiarot, MON vs. CHI ($16): Chiarot has gone pointless in six of the last seven games, and he's accrued a minus-5 rating over that stretch. That doesn't leave much of a floor, and there's not much ceiling to be chasing at this price range.

Justin Faulk, STL vs. PHI ($14): Faulk is back in the rabbit hole with an eight-game pointless streak, and he failed to direct a shot on net in two of those contests. He's paired up with Jay Bouwmeester as well, so unless the Blues are on the man advantage, Faulk will be playing a more defensive role.
