Yahoo DFS Hockey: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

On Tuesday, the World Series and the NBA Finals begin. Monday, though, is all about the NHL ( and Monday Night Football). There are four NHL games Monday. Here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your daily fantasy lineups.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, TOR vs. CLM ($32): Andersen's numbers are currently being skewed by the fact he got roughed up by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Over his last three starts he has a 2.28 GAA and .931 save percentage. The Blue Jackets lost a lot of talent this offseason, and it has shown so far. Columbus has scored a mere 2.25 goals per game.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Jordan Binnington, STL vs. COL ($29): I'm not calling it a sophomore slump yet, but Binnington is off to a slightly-slow start to the season. He's posted a 2.93 GAA and .909 save percentage. This is not the matchup to turn things around in. The Avalanche have scored 4.38 goals per game, highest in the NHL.

CENTER

Roope Hintz, DAL vs. OTT ($17): Thanks to some added depth on the Stars, Hintz is currently centering a line with Jamie Benn and Corey Perry. Hintz also has a goal in each of his last two games. The Senators have gotten no better defensively since last year, as they have a 3.71 GAA.

CENTER TO AVOID

Sean Couturier, PHI vs. VGK ($21): Couturier is off to a good start to the season, he has four points through six games, but you know who is having an even better start to the season? That would be Marc-Andre Fleury, who has a 2.18 GAA and .934 save percentage. On top of that, the Golden Knights have the league's best penalty kill.

WING

Andre Burakovsky, COL at STL ($16): Burakovsky showed potential in Washington, but never quite broke out. Maybe he needed a change of scenery, as he has eight points through eight games. The Blues have a 3.50 GAA, and until Jordan Binnington picks up his play this looks like a favorable matchup.

Kasperi Kapanen, TOR vs. CLM ($13): Kapanen has five points on the year, though three of those came in one game. However, the Finn has started 61.4 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone to start the year, second highest on the Maple Leafs. Joonas Korpisalo has a .905 save percentage as the newly-minted Blue Jackets starter, but last year he had an .897 save percentage.

WINGS TO AVOID

Jonathan Marchessault, VGK at PHI ($21): Marchessault is off to a bit of a slow start, as he only has one goal though nine games. His 3.5 shooting percentage will improve, but he may not get much opportunity in this one. The Flyers have only allowed 26.0 shots on net per contest, fewest in the NHL.

Brady Tkachuk, OTT at DAL ($19): Tkachuk is the only Ottawa forward you'd ever really consider on a normal day. The Stars have gotten off to a slow start, but Ben Bishop still has a 2.58 GAA and .913 save percentage. Plus, last year he had a 1.98 GAA and .934 save percentage.

DEFENSE

John Klingberg, DAL vs. OTT ($18): Klingberg is off to a bad start, but he had two points in a game recently. Maybe he's ready to turn it around. After all, the Swede has never had fewer than 40 points in a season, and that was as a rookie. This is a great matchup for getting your groove back. The Senators have a 3.71 GAA and have allowed 35.1 shots on net per contest.

Jake Muzzin, TOR vs. CLM ($16): Muzzin is overshadowed offensively by Morgan Rielly and Tyson Barrie, but Muzzin has four points in his last five games. He also has at least 37 points in four of his last five campaigns. As previously noted, Joonas Korpisalo has a .905 save percentage, and being on the road against the Leafs doesn't bode well for him.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Thomas Chabot, OTT at DAL ($19): Chabot is the closest thing to a star the Senators have, and he gets a lot of ice time. That includes 4:13 per game on the power play. Again, though, the Stars have better numbers defensively than you might expect given their slow start. Dallas has only given up 29.8 shots on net per game and have a top-10 penalty kill. Throw in Ben Bishop's .934 save percentage from last year and it doesn't look good for Chabot.

Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI vs. VGK ($13): If you've been waiting for Gostisbehere to rebound from a down season last year, you've been disappointed so far. The 26-year-old has zero points through six games. While he's averaged 3:23 per game with the extra man, this isn't the matchup for that to pay off. Vegas has the league's top-ranked penalty kill.
