Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

GOALIE

Jacob Markstrom, VAN vs. LA ($29): Markstrom has lost two straight games to start the season, but he has a solid opportunity to right the ship Wednesday. This is the Canucks' home opener, and the Kings will be on the second half of back-to-back games -- they played Calgary on Tuesday. If that's not enough, though, he also posted a respectable .918 save percentage and 2.26 GAA against the Kings last year.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Cory Schneider, NJ at PHI ($30): There's no precedent for why Schneider is the second highest-priced netminder in this slate. He wasn't great in his only start this season as he allowed two goals on 21 shots before leaving with cramping, and he hasn't surpassed a .908 save percentage since the 2015-16 season. Philly has had a leg up on Schneider in his career, too, as Schneider has an .897 save percentage against the Flyers over 12 games.

CENTER

Nico Hischier, NJ at PHI ($16): Hischier only has one assist through the first two games, but he'll stay on the top line with Taylor Hall ($29). Hall is just two seasons removed from a 93-point campaign, so Hischier -- the first-overall pick in 2017 -- teaming up with a star like that is bound to pay off, especially against the Flyers, who Hischier has seven points against in seven career games.

CENTER TO AVOID

Bo Horvat, LA at VAN ($17): The Canucks are bumping 40-point producer Michael Ferland ($10) to the third line, leaving Horvat with Josh Leivo ($10) and Tanner Pearson ($17). Horvat was pointless in two games with Ferland on his line, and his value will go down after the line change. Tread lightly with this pivot until his production ramps up.

WINGS

Victor Olofsson, BUF vs. MON ($19): Olofsson enjoyed a hot start to the season with a point in each game so far, including three goals -- all on the power play -- in the last two games. He clearly has chemistry with Jack Eichel ($29), as Eichel assisted two of those goals. Look for Olofsson to leverage the recent success against Montreal's backup goalie Keith Kinkaid ($23).

Travis Konecny, PHI vs. NJ ($19): After back-to-back, 24-goal seasons, Konecny hasn't missed a beat as he lit the lamp twice in the season opener against the Blackhawks, which took place in Prague nearly a week ago. He's back stateside now, though, and he has a matchup against a struggling Devils team, which has allowed 11 goals, including three on the power play, over their first two games. Konecny should continue to get ample time on the man advantage, so he's a high-ceiling DFS option in this slate.

WINGS TO AVOID

Kyle Okposo, BUF vs. MON ($15): This isn't an outrageous price, but Okposo only has one point and four shots on net in three games. He's averaging just 9:53 TOI as well on the fourth line, and the veteran doesn't get power-play opportunities. Okposo doesn't have an appealing floor either with a minus-13 career rating against the Canadiens.

Jesper Bratt, NJD @ PHI ($15): Bratt compiled 33 points last year, but he was noticeably better at home with 21 in his own barn compared to 12 on the road. He's had trouble getting started this year with just one point and one shot on net in two games, and now the Devils are traveling to a hostile Philly environment for their home opener. The odds are stacked against Bratt revving up the offense just yet.

DEFENSE

Rasmus Dahlin, BUF vs. MON ($18): Dahlin may be a highly owned piece in this slate after he's rocketed out of the gate with five points -- three on the power play -- and a plus-4 rating over the first three games. This is why he was the first-overall pick last year, and he now looks comfortable driving the net to create offense. Dahlin's price will be on the rise after a few more high-production games, so hone in while it's still reasonable.

Quinn Hughes, VAN vs. LA ($12): Hughes has one assist through the first two games, and while that's not astounding, he has averaged 22:37 TOI and will continue to work on the power play. The Canucks will shuffle their lines around in this outing, but the fact it's their home opener should give them a boost. Either way, Hughes has a high ceiling against last year's 29th-ranked penalty kill (76.6 percent).

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Shea Weber, MON at BUF ($21): Weber has been a boom or bust to start the season, as he didn't even record a shot on net in the opener but came back two nights later and dished out two assists, fired eight shots on goal and finished with a plus-2 rating. The Sabres have been strong against opposing blue lines, however, as they allowed zero goals and four assists to defensemen over three games. Weber's too expensive for that risk.

Matt Niskanen, PHI vs. NJ ($13): Niskanen didn't carry much offensive potential before, but now he's being demoted to the third pairing for this outing. Last year for the Capitals, Niskanen had just one assist and a minus-3 rating against the Devils as well. He's not a promising option in this slate.
