Yahoo DFS Hockey: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

GOALIE

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. NYI ($26): Hellebuyck has been on top of his game recently, as he has a 2.44 GAA and .927 save percentage in his last 10 outings. The Islanders are a tough opponent, but mostly because of their defensive acumen. They've actually only averaged 2.61 goals and 26.9 shots on net per contest on the road.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Anton Khudobin, DAL at EDM ($31): Khudobin has been as impressive as any backup goalie, as he has a 2.53 GAA and .924 save percentage. However, he will be on the road for the second game of a back-to-back in this one. Plus, the Oilers have been hot offensively this month. They've averaged 3.50 goals per game in March.

CENTER

Bo Horvat, VAN vs. LOS ($21): Now that Elias Pettersson has regressed a bit, we can give Horvat the love he deserves. He has 27 goals on 220 shots, and he has 10 points in his last nine contests. As for the Kings, they have a 3.50 GAA since the All-Star break, which is second highest in the NHL in that time.

CENTER TO AVOID

Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. NYI ($28): Scheifele has five points in his last 11 games, which would be good for most players, but a little low for a player this expensive. This is quite a tough matchup, though, even though the Jets are at home. The Islanders have an imposing 2.45 GAA on the road.

WING

Anthony Mantha, DET at BUF ($18): After a bit of a rough patch, Mantha has three points in his last two games. He's started 61.2 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, second highest on the Red Wings, and he's currently on Detroit's top line with Dylan Larkin as his center. This is also about as good of a matchup as you will find in the NHL at the moment. The Sabres have a 3.85 GAA since the All-Star break.

Sam Reinhart, BUF vs. DET ($13): As increase in minutes, and quality of linemates, has helped Reinhart set a new personal best in points. He's notched 61 goals in 76 games, 15 of which have come on the power play. Meanwhile, the Wings, in addition to having the 27th-ranked penalty kill, have a 3.51 GAA on the road.

WINGS TO AVOID

Artemi Panarin, CLM vs. MON ($23): Panarin scored a goal in his last game, but it was his first time lighting the lamp in 13 contests. It might be tricky for him to make it back-to-back games with a goal going up against Carey Price in net. Price has a 2.27 GAA and .925 save percentage in his last 18 outings.

T.J. Oshie, WAS at CAR ($20): You can't really ever recommend avoiding Alex Ovechkin, but Oshie isn't quite on that level. The Hurricanes have been stout on defense since the All-Star break, as they have a 2.35 GAA in that time. They also have the sixth-ranked penalty kill on the season, and 14 of Oshie's 49 points have come with the extra man.

DEFENSE

Aaron Ekblad, FLA at OTT ($17): Ekblad has tallied 13 goals on 168 shots in 77 games. He also has eight points in his last 12 contests. As for the Senators, they have a 3.64 GAA and have allowed 35.9 shots on net per game. Both are highest in the NHL.

Niklas Kronwall, DET at BUF ($10): Believe it or not, Kronwall has been a bit active offensively recently. He has seven points in his last 12 games, including three with the extra man. Not bad for a 38-year-old. As previously noted, the Sabres have a 3.85 GAA since the All-Star break. That's worst in the NHL by a sizable margin.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Shea Weber, MON at CLM ($25): Although he hasn't had the expected success on the power play (five points in 53 games) it's been a good season for Weber. However, he's going to have to go up a goalie in Sergei Bobrovsky who is as hot as any goalie at the moment. Over his last 15 games he's posting a 1.91 GAA and .932 save percentage.

Drew Doughty, LOS at VAN ($17): Doughty just scored a goal, which is good. It was also his first goal in 26 games, which is not so good. Most of Doughty's success this year has come on the power play, as 23 of his 42 points have been with the extra man. That doesn't bode well here, as the Canucks have the fourth-ranked penalty kill at home.
