DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

It's a unique slate in the NHL on Sunday with seven games on the docket, but only the three evening tilts included in DraftKings' featured contests. The marquee matchup is a potential Stanley Cup preview between Tampa Bay and Winnipeg, and it's also worth noting that Vancouver will be playing its second game in consecutive nights when they host Edmonton.

GOALIE

Martin Jones, SAN at CHI ($7,900): The backstop has been better of late with four wins, a .943 save percentage and 1.81 GAA through his past five outings. It's also encouraging that Jones' strong play doesn't align with a better team effort in front of him. San Jose has allowed 12.53 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes at five-on-five during the stretch, compared to their 11.5 year-long mark.

CENTER

Logan Couture, SAN at CHI ($6,400): Sticking with the Sharks, Couture is both affordable and in excellent form. He's recorded four goals, 11 assists, 37 shots and 11 blocks through his past 13 contests and has connected with linemate Timo Meier for a rock-solid 4.07 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five. Of course, the matchup is the trump card with Chicago ranking in the bottom third of the league in both high-danger chances allowed and goals against per 60.

Jonathan Toews, CHI vs. SAN ($4,900): In the midst of a rebound campaign, Toews has posted consecutive three-point showings to improve to 2.6 points per 60 minutes – his highest mark since the 2013-14 season. Obviously, it will be tough to continue putting up monster offensive numbers, but his salary also hasn't caught up to his current production. Plus, The Chicago captain is locked into a go-to role with top offensive minutes.

WING

Timo Meier, SAN at CHI ($6,400): It's all come together for Meier this season, and the 22-year-old winger has been scorching hot of late with five goals, four assists and 18 shots through his past five outings. As noted, this is also a cushy matchup against Chicago, and Meier has excellent chemistry with center Logan Couture.

Alex Chiasson, EDM at VAN ($5,100): Playing with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl has been a tremendous boon for Chiasson's value, and the third wheel has now collected eight tallies and four helpers through his past 16 games. Additionally, the trio has connected for an elite 6.73 goals per 60 minutes. It's also worth reminding that Vancouver is playing its second game in consecutive nights.

Josh Leivo, VAN vs. EDM ($3,100): Skating in a ripe role with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser, Leivo has recorded a respectable three goals and an assist through six games as a Canuck for a rock-solid 2.85 points per hour. It all adds up to Leivo being an excellent low-priced flier.

DEFENSE

Darnell Nurse, EDM at VAN ($5,900): Catapulted up the depth chart with Oscar Klefbom (finger) out of the lineup, Nurse's value has skyrocketed. The new power-play quarterback has eight points – including three goals –through his past six games and averaged 29:52 of ice time – with 2:40 on the man advantage – through the past three games. It's also worth noting Nurse offers a high floor because of his high shot volume and willingness to block shots.

Victor Hedman, TB at WPG ($5,100): A date with the Jets isn't an easy matchup, but it's impossible to overlook the Swede's discounted salary. Hedman has marked the scoresheet in 10 of his past 14 games for a goal, 12 helpers, 38 shots and 17 blocks. He's also logged a hefty 23:16 of ice time per contest with 3:13 on the power play.
