Yahoo DFS Hockey: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

It's a short three-game Sunday slate with four of six teams on the second half of back-to-back matchups. The first puck drops at 7:00 ET, and here are some daily fantasy targets to lock into your lineup and some to stay away from:

GOALIE

Louis Domingue, TB at OTT ($21): Starts are rare when you're Andrei Vasilevskiy's backup, but this one has value against a Senators team that just got routed 9-2 by the Sabres. The Sens simply don't generate chances, with the third-worst Corsi For percentage (42.46) in the league. Domingue enters the matchup with a 2-1 record and will be aided by a strong presence in front of him.

GOALIE TO AVOID

John Gibson, ANA vs. CLM ($36): There's plenty of arguments as to why the Ducks' season is off to a horrid start, but Gibson isn't a valid one. He's playing some of the best hockey of his career and usually serves as the only reason the Ducks stay in games. He comes in with a .923 save percentage over the last five games, but he's winless during that span. With little offensive support of late, Gibson's simply overpriced.

CENTER

Ryan Getzlaf, ANA vs. CLM ($21): Getzlaf is shooting at a high rate with 15 shots on goal over the last four games. This has blossomed into two goals and five assists and he'll ride this hot streak into Sunday's matchup against the Blue Jackets, who will be on the latter half of back-to-back games.

CENTER TO AVOID

Casey Mittelstadt, BUF at NYR ($15): Hopes were high for Mittelstadt after he recorded five points in his first six NHL games last season. It's been a bumpy road to start this campaign with five points in 13 contests. The youngster still has plenty of time to rebound, but expectations should be hindered as the Sabres go up against Henrik Lundqvist on Sunday.

WINGS

Jason Pominville, BUF at NYR ($18): The 35-year-old has been a spark with the rebuilding club and he'll enter Sunday's game on a seven-game point streak that includes seven goals and six assists. His 54.4 Corsi For percentage is the highest of his career, and there's no reason it should slow down on the team's No. 1 line with Jack Eichel. Ride the vet while he's hot.

Yanni Gourde, TB at OTT ($22): Gourde is averaging a point per game this season and boasts a strong 53.7 Corsi For percentage. The 26-year-old won't be slowing down against the Senators, who are projected to start 35-year old Mike McKenna and his 10 NHL appearances over the last eight years. And Gourde's been just as effective as Nikita Kucherov this season, but comes in eight bucks cheaper.

WINGS TO AVOID

Jakob Silfverberg, ANA vs. CLM ($19): Silfverberg is off to a hot start with eight points in nine games, but his shooting rate of 28.9 percent isn't sustainable, especially when combined with his brutal 35.1 Corsi For percentage. The production will fall off sooner rather than later, and there's better value for the price tag.

Bobby Ryan, OTT vs. TB ($15): Ryan's seven points in 13 games fits the price tag, but he's struggling to generate chances with a 38.1 Corsi For percentage. It's by far the lowest of his career, and Sunday's opponent of the Lightning won't do him any favors. Tampa Bay ranks fifth in the league with a 53.53 Corsi and own the top penalty kill at 93.1 percent.

DEFENSEMEN

Neal Pionk, NYR vs. BUF ($15): Pionk's pointless in the last four outings, but he provided a nice floor with 13 hits and 14 blocked shots over that stretch. He's knocking on the door, with 23 minutes of ice per game that includes substantial power-play time. That'll come in handy against the Sabres, who rank 20th in the league on the penalty kill at 76.7 percent.

Ryan Murray, CLM at ANA ($15): Even after Seth Jones returned, the Blue Jackets have leaned heavily on Murray, who has averaged 22:05 this year. He has chipped in with seven assists – with one of those on the power play – to show for it. His 55.0 Corsi For percentage paints a favorable picture against the Ducks, who rank last in the league in the category at 41.63.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Cam Fowler, ANA vs. CLM ($18): Fowler has notched six assists in 14 games but hasn't recorded a goal despite 26 shots on net. His Corsi For percentage of 41.2 sits at a low career point, and his 38 blocked shots are uncharacteristic and likely not sustainable. If he could show more consistent success, Fowler would warrant the cost. Until then, stronger options exist on the blue line.

Kevin Shattenkirk, NYR vs. BUF ($18): Shattenkirk's been a headache for fantasy owners, as the potential is present after compiling four straight 25-plus-point seasons on the power play spanning 2013-2017. However, he has severely struggled with just three points – with only one on the power play – in 12 games and has seen his ice time get knocked down to 18:32 per outing. Until the ice time gets bumped up, Shattenkirk remains too expensive in daily settings.
