DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Devan Dubnyk, MIN at VAN ($8,100): There aren't many choices with just two games on tap, but Dubnyk and the Wild have the most favorable matchup against the Canucks, a young and inexperienced team currently without the services of Chris Tanev and Alexander Edler. Dubnyk has won four straight starts and has a career .921 save percentage against the Canucks, and he comes at a $300 discount to Frederik Andersen, who is playing against a better offensive club.

CENTER

Nazem Kadri, TOR vs. CGY ($6,200):Auston Matthews is out, which means a bigger role for Kadri, who has scored in two straight games and now playing with puck wiz Mitch Marner. Kadri is going to be shooting the puck a lot more to replace Matthews' production, and his current shooting percentage is well below his career average, so he might be in for a hot streak soon.

Charlie Coyle, MIN at VAN ($3,900): He's still shooting too infrequently to be an offensive threat every night, but he's getting plenty of even-strength and power-play ice time even though he's playing on the third line. Coyle has had some success against the Canucks in the past, scoring two points in two games last season and six goals and nine points in 18 games in his career. Coyle can provide some good value at this price.

WING

Mikael Granlund, MIN at VAN ($6,100): He's a certifiable Canuck killer, taking over the mantle after Marian Gaborik haunted them for years. The dependable Finn is on a seven-game point streak, and in 15 career games against the Canucks has scored 12 points in 15 games, a rate much higher than his career average against the rest of the league. The Wild are on a five-game winning streak and the Canucks are a wounded animal.

Kasperi Kapanen, TOR vs. CGY ($5,400): He scored in both games of a home-and-home series against the Jets, but the biggest headline is his promotion to John Tavares' line. Marner is now paired with Kadri to balance out the scoring, but it's also a sign of Mike Babcock's confidence in Kapanen. The Flames defense is a dumpster fire at the moment and it's a good test to see if Kapanen can produce on the top line.

Nikolay Goldobin, VAN vs. MIN ($3,400): Worst-case scenario: The talented Russian winger is fool's gold, tantalizing with his skill but still ends up with zeroes across the board and extends his scoring drought to 11 games. Best-case scenario: Elias Pettersson turns in a gem performance and makes Goldobin's job easy and the Canucks fanbase relaxes a little bit. At least Goldobin shoots fairly frequently, but he's definitely a boom-or-bust type player.

DEFENSE

Mark Giordano, CGY at TOR ($5,900): Might as well splurge for the good stuff with the Flames captain. Giordano has nine points and a plus-5 rating in 11 games this season and on Saturday played over 28 minutes against the Caps. Giordano is an all-round defenseman who will again see a lot of minutes against Toronto, especially against Tavares.

Ben Hutton, VAN vs. MIN ($3,500): Hutton and Erik Gudbranson now form Vancouver's top pairing, and after being in Travis Green's doghouse for most of last season, Hutton has averaged over 23 minutes in the past three games. He's also on the verge of replacing Derrick Pouliot as the power-play quarterback, playing 3:09 to Pouliot's 2:51 on Saturday despite averaging just 38 seconds all season. Sources say playing with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser is a pretty good gig.
