Frozen Fantasy: Work It

Frozen Fantasy: Work It

This article is part of our Frozen Fantasy series.

I'll keep this short and sweet. Baseball is beckoning, but a fantasy hockey title is within reach.

You need the wire. You need it bad.

And you need to work it harder than the missing Richard Simmons ever did. You'll never know what you'll find.

The season ends this week. An arena full of fantasy owners has already left the building.

Their loss. Your gain.

Case in point. I scored a hot Nathan MacKinnon on April Fool's Day. Yes, 87 percent owned Nathan MacKinnon. Stud forward on a three-game, four-point streak and six points in his last five Nathan MacKinnon.

With five games to play.

Work the wire and work it hard. There are plenty of other big and helpful fish in the sea if you just go looking.

You'll only have yourself to blame if you don't.

Now let's look who else caught my eye this week.

MULTIPLE CATEGORIES

Sven Andrighetto, RW/LW, Colorado (5 percent Yahoo owned) - Fans pitied Andrighetto when he was banished from Montreal to Colorado, but the guy couldn't be happier. He's rolling with Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen, and has eight points in his last eight games. Four goals and four assists. Colorado is playing out the season loose and easy, and the points is flowing. Make him yours.

Sean Couturier, C, Philadelphia (12 percent) -
Cooter has 11 points, including eight helpers, in his last 11 games heading into Sunday. He's also plus-13 with 25 shots in that

Sean Couturier, C, Philadelphia (12 percent) -
Cooter has 11 points, including eight helpers, in his last 11 games heading into Sunday. He's also plus-13 with 25 shots in that span. Nuf said?

GOALS

Jordan Weal, C, Philadelphia (1 percent) - Weal was riding a four-game goal streak into Sunday's tilt with the Rangers. He may be small, but he's scored at every level he's ever played. And he does it in bunches. Roll the dice on Weal. What do you have to lose? The league! Get off your hands.

ASSISTS

Tanner Kero, RW/C, Chicago (1 percent) - Kero the Hero has been moved to a line with Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin. He was riding a three-game, four-point streak that included three helpers heading into Sunday's match with Boston. What are you waiting for?

Gustav Nyquist, LW/RW, Detroit (29 percent) -
He's heavily owned, but he was available in one of my leagues. Nyquist has seven points, including six assists, in his last six games. Forget about the issues with his declining game – he's hot right now and you need that.

Antoine Vermette, C, Anaheim (4 percent) -
Who knew it would take this desert reject to get Corey Perry on track (sort of)? Vermette comes out of Saturday with a three-game, four-helper streak and he's been able to help Perry finally find the net. Setting up a sniper means plenty of apples to go around.

POWER-PLAY POINTS

Christian Dvorak, LW/C, Arizona (4 percent) - Power-play points are hard to find at this time of year – the big guns are all locked up. But heading into Sunday, Dvorak had three points in his last two games, including two on the power play. He's talented and playing for a bigger role next season. Roll the dice.

SOG

Alexander Edler, D, Vancouver (5 percent) - The Orcas are lost at sea, but Edler hasn't given up hope. He's firing pucks at the net at a remarkable pace. Try 14 in three games into Sunday night's home tilt against the Sharks. Fourteen. Just saying.

WINS

Michael Hutchinson, G, Winnipeg (6 percent) - The Jets are testing Hutch's mettle for a gig in 2016-17, so he's getting major time in the blue paint. He wants it, so he's been good. Real good. Try four wins in his last five starts good (the Jets have only had seven games in that span). Grab him – he might get you two more wins than you ever thought you'd get.

Back to the wire.

I don't believe in giving up. Not even if I'm down the standings in my league. I made a commitment to the other owners in every league I'm in when I signed up. I don't take that lightly.

Last week, I talked about sitting near the bottom of the league and keeping the race at the top honest. Let me tell you about the last week. And how it worked.

I'll refresh your memory. YCN-Mak had a 3.5 point lead on the top of the Y! Friends and Family league. Not any more.

YCN-Mak is in second as of Sunday, April 2. Active ownership from both the leaders and a couple of us down the ranks has made this a real race.

Work it, baybee. WORK IT!

Happy last week, playoffs and baseball. Until next year.
