Hoshino lost in a playoff to Joaquin Niemann at the Australian Open on Sunday.

ANALYSIS
Hoshino was seeking his first win on the DP World Tour. He came up just short last week at the Australian PGA to Min Woo Lee and at the Australian Open he gave himself another chance at that win. Hoshino made a late birdie on 17 to match Niemann in the clubhouse at 14-under-par, but was unable to make birdie on the gettable par-5 finishing hole. That setup a playoff where both players teed it up on 18 again and made birdie. Hoshino made birdie again on 18 on the second playoff hole, but was defeated by an eagle by Niemann. Hoshino is off to a great start to the new DPWT season with two solo second's and has earned a spot in the 2024 Open Championship.
