29-Year-Old LinebackerLB
Carolina Panthers
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Jewell set career highs in tackles, sacks and interceptions during the 2022 campaign, and he'll look to play an important role in Denver's defense once again this season as he enters the final year of his current contract. The 28-year-old linebacker figures to continue in an every-down role in 2023, as he and fellow linebacker Alex Singleton formed an elite tandem as the team's leading tacklers last season. Jewell's impressive production makes him an interesting IDP option for the coming season. Read Past Outlooks

The Panthers have agreed to terms with Jewell, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a three-year, $22.75 million deal with $10 million guaranteed, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. The 29-year-old spent each of his first six seasons with the Broncos, and 2023 marked his third with at least 100 tackles. In Carolina, Jewell links back up with DC Ejiro Evero after Evero was Denver's defensive coordinator in 2022. Jewell should know the defense.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Unlikely to remain with Broncos
LBDenver Broncos
February 4, 2024
Jewell is unlikely to re-sign with the Broncos in 2024, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Russell Wilson's mega deal will leave the Broncos cap-strapped in 2024, regardless of whether the underperforming quarterback is released. General manager George Paton has said Denver is likely to sit out the first wave of free agency, which will make it difficult to re-sign top free agents such as Jewell, who has reached the 100-tackle threshold in three of the past four seasons. The 29-year-old linebacker would likely have to take less than his market value to re-sign with the Broncos.

Jewell signed a two-year, $11 million contract in March to remain in Denver. The 27-year-old played in just two games in 2021 before suffering a torn pectoral that ended his season. In the season prior, Jewell totaled 113 tackles, four pass deflections and two sacks. The veteran should start at inside linebacker and look to return to form as a key part the Broncos' strong defensive unit.
Jewell, a 2018 fourth-rounder, emerged as a quality starter for Denver last season, compiling five-plus tackles in all but two games. The Iowa product seemingly lacks the ideal athleticism to star in Vic Fangio's system, but at least to start the coming season Jewell projects to start alongside Alexander Johnson, with 2021 third-round pick Baron Browning waiting in the wings should Jewell struggle.
Drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 draft as an heir apparent at inside linebacker, injuries to Brandon Marshall pushed Jewell into the starting lineup early. He finished his rookie campaign with nine starts, 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three passes defended. Marshall is in Oakland now and a calf injury to Jewell's presumed tandem partner, Todd Davis, has further accelerated Jewell's development as the sophomore has been calling the defense until Davis returns. Inside linebackers have put together some prolific seasons under head coach Vic Fangio and, while Jewell isn't quite the athlete of some of Fangio's former studs, the team showed its faith in him by eschewing other potential options in the draft and free agency.
