David Macklin

Backup cornerback who will compete for time in nickel and dime packages. He will also have to earn playing time on special teams if he wants a to earn a roster spot.

Macklin is a sleeper pick at corner this season. He was limited by injuries a year ago, but did appear in all 16 games. He recorded 53 solo tackles and assisted on eight others. Macklin intercepted two passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He deflected 15 passes. He is slated to start at corner this season alongside Antrel Rolle. With teams wary of throwing towards Rolle (if he stays healthy enough to play, that is), Macklin should have opportunities to make plays.

Macklin signed in the off-season after four seasons with the Colts in which he started appeared in 64 games with 37 starts. His numbers weren’t great -- 190 tackles (141 solos), 43 pass deflections and 7 interceptions – but they were good. He enters the 2004 campaign as the starter with the loss of David Barrett to free agency.

Projected as the team's starting right cornerback.
