Training Camp Notes: August 31

This article is part of our Training Camp Notes series.

Here are some of the top fantasy football headlines from Monday.

-The biggest news of the day was arguably Jacksonville's decision to cut Leonard Fournette. For all the fallout in the Jacksonville backfield, click here to read this Job Battles article from earlier in the day.

-If not the Fournette news, then the biggest item of the day was the reporting of Alvin Kamara's apparent holdout from New Orleans training camp. Unlike Joe Mixon in Cincinnati, the Saints called Kamara's absences 'unexcused' and leaked to media that they consider his absence contract-related. With all this noted, it still doesn't necessarily mean that Kamara intends to sit out any games. For now, though, the Saints will primarily work with Latavius Murray and Ty Montgomery in practice.

-D'Andre Swift (leg) returned to practice Monday but only on a limited basis. If he can keep making limited practices the rest of the week and then practice fully next week he should be able to stay involved in the Week 1 game plan, even if Kerryon Johnson serves as the starter. The general expectation from beat writers around the team is that Johnson will be the starter in Week 1, however.

-Cooper Kupp received negative x-ray results on his lower right leg, but the team determined that he was dealing with a muscle strain. Although the official line is that he'll be fine for Week 1, it's something to monitor going into next week.

-The Colts haven't yet determined a prognosis for Trey Burton, who suffered a calf injury Saturday. The team is waiting for the injury to settle down before determining the state of the calf. Coach Frank Reich left open the possibility of a week-to-week sort of prognosis for the pass-catching tight end, but whenever he's healthy next the Colts will likely look to get Burton involved in some notable capacity. If Burton misses any game time it could leave more slack for Jack Doyle, Mo Alie-Cox, or the Colts wide receivers.

-Lamar Miller (knee) was activated from the PUP list Monday, allowing him to join the Patriots practices and push for snaps ahead of Week 1. There's a chance that Miller doesn't make the roster – his $1.05 million cap hit could be cut for $850,000 in savings, according to OverTheCap.com – but that would be an odd exercise on the Patriots' part, effectively penalizing him for missing time recovering from a 2019 injury they of course already knew about. Even with that said, the Patriots would likely need to keep five running backs to make room for Miller – himself, presumed starter Damien Harris, Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead and James White.

-DeVante Parker is missing practice time and missed some time last week with an undisclosed injury, though the team says it's nothing of concern. As much as Adam Gase was likely a factor in the postponement of Parker's NFL breakout, it's also true that Parker has a history of getting nicked up with small but lingering issues. It would be nice to see him get fully into practice soon to chase off that particular concern, though it's good to hear in the meantime that the team is evidently unbothered by the injury.

-Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that Darrell Henderson (hamstring) remains day-to-day and out of practice, a stretch of inactivity that began 10 days ago. McVay was quick to push back against the idea that Henderson would miss Week 1, however. According to The Athletic writer Jourdan Rodrigue, McVay said Henderson "has grasp and ownership of the offense despite missing time." Although that statement alone guarantees nothing, at face value it seems to imply that Henderson could play a central role in Week 1 as long as he gets into practice for the week leading up to the 13th of September. In the meantime Cam Akers and to a lesser extent Malcolm Brown are penciled in as the lead backs for the Rams in Week 1.

-Stefon Diggs (back) returned to a full practice workload, which all but assures he's past whatever problem his back tweak presented him. By all accounts, Diggs has worked well with quarterback Josh Allen in training camp and sounds prepared for the regular season in terms of fitting into the Bills offense. If that's true, then his talent should take care of the rest once the games start.
