2023 Receiving Projections
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Justin Moore will look to build on a breakout 2022 season for the Blue Devils in his third season. A former quarterback, Moore blossomed into the Blue Devils second-leading receiver as a sophomore, hauling in 60 passes on 92 targets, finishing with 656 yards and five touchdowns. He was a bit inconsistent however, scoring in each of Duke’s first three games and in their final two, with nothing coming in between. Further, he had only 240 yards in the heart of their schedule, spanning seven games, before erupting again late for 275 yards in Duke’s final two regular season contests. Finding consistency in 2023 will be of paramount importance to Moore’s fantasy appeal, and that could be hard to find with Duke returning leading receiver Jalon Calhoun, TE Nicky Dalmolin and a third wideout in Eli Pancol. QB Riley Leonard is also back, as well as three running backs that form a committee. It sets up for great offensive continuity, but leads to plenty of questions about upside. It’s fair to question whether the offense can sustain numerous fantasy contributors. As such, Moore may need one more year, where Calhoun departs, to fully become a national consideration. But playing matchups, there can be some weeks where he’s starter worthy. Read Past Outlooks
Minimal output during loss
Moore notched three receptions (on six targets) for 41 yards during Saturday's 17-10 victory against Troy.
ANALYSIS
Moore had a tough time connecting with quarterback Grayson Loftis, as he finished with the lowest amount of receiving yards across his last six performances. The junior pass-catcher was a consistent producer for the Blue Devils' offense, reeling in 62 receptions for 835 yards and eight touchdowns. With starting signal-caller Riley Leonard transferring out and Maliik Murphy joining from Texas, the starting job under center will be battled out between Murphy and Loftis, which could impact the rest of the skilled position players.
