Omeire will have the opportunity to carve out a role in the Longhorns' new look offense under coach Steve Sarkisian who spent the last four years with Alabama and the Atlanta Falcons. Prior to tearing his ACL in the fall of 2020, Omeire was set to be the top X wideout, ahead of Brennen Eagles, who ended up with 28 catches for 469 yards and five touchdowns. With Jake Smith entering the portal, Omeire will team up with Joshua Moore and Jordan Whittington to form a lethal combination in the receiving core. Whether it's Hudson Card or Casey Thompson who wins the quarterback job, they'll have plenty of weapons at their disposal.
Smith flashed in his freshman campaign with 25 catches for 274 yards and six touchdowns on 35 targets. With the departure of Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson to the NFL, Smith will pair with Brennan Eagles to be the Longhorns' top two options in the passing game. Former running back Jordan Whittington will reportedly transition to the slot, however, Smith has the tools to line up almost anywhere in Texas' offense if need be. With a top-tier quarterback in Sam Ehlinger, Smith is a legitimate breakout candidate during this sophomore season.
Smith is expected to compete in the slot right away with the departure of Bru McCoy back to USC and Jordan Whittington's transition to running back. The true freshman from Scottdale, AZ was named the 2018-19 Gatorade National Football Athlete of the Year after hauling in 64 receptions for 1,113 yards and 22 touchdowns while also racking up 741 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. Smith will enter the season as the third receiver behind seniors Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay. If Texas offense improves like it's projected to, Smith could have some fantasy value in deeper leagues and in DFS.
