Benched due to coach's decision
FTennessee
March 25, 2019
Schofield was left on the bench in overtime due to a coach's decision and not because he asked to remained sidelined as previously reported, Joe Rexrode of the Tennessean reports.
ANALYSIS
While there was plenty of in-game drama Sunday as Tennessee blew a 25-point lead and needed overtime to overcome Iowa, the drama continued in the post-game as speculation flew as to why the Volunteers' second-best player, Schofield, was not on the court for the final possession of regulation and overtime. The original report stated that the senior asked coaches to remain on the bench, but now the coaching staff is saying it was only their decision to keep him off the court. Either way, it's a concern that Schofield wasn't on the court in what could have been the final five minutes of his collegiate career had the Hawkeyes finished the historic comeback, and why exactly the Volunteers would choose to keep their second-leading scorer on the bench during overtime. He should draw the start Thursday against Purdue, but if the game remains close again, Sunday's move by the coaches put his usefulness in question.
