Just a few things that caught my eye:
- Alec Martinez's Cup-winning goal celebration? # priceless. I wonder if he'll ever get his gloves back.
- Henrik Lundqvist stopped the 50th shot of the game; he couldn't stop the 51st. #connsmythe if the Rangers had found a way to come back in this series.
- Two Cups in three years. And this one was won on the back of three Game 7 wins. Wow.
- The CBC's feed crapped out just as the ceremonies were to begin. They were quick to flip the switch to NBC, but that coverage pales in comparison. Yuck. Thank gawd the good feed came back relatively fast.
- I can't wait to see what That 80s Line can do over a full season. How many points will Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson get playing beside Jeff Carter, particularly when they skate against the lower third of the league? North of 60 each? 70? More?
- Rick Nash is going to be seeing Jonathan Quick in his nightmares for months. That stop saved the game.
- What a season for Anze Kopitar. He led Team Slovenia to its first ever Olympic hockey win; his dad was the coach. And now he has another Cup. He may be exhausted, but he's happy as shit.
- These playoffs have been a coming out party for a bunch of guys, but the ones I'm targeting next year are Ryan McDonagh, Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson. Wow.
- Justin Williams. Three Stanley Cups, but just his first Conn Smythe. Well deserved.
- What is it with American media? CBC was doing a live interview with Jake Muzzin and a camera pushed between. And then during a live interview with Kyle Clifford, Elliote Freedman had a dozen other media people push mics, recorders and cameras in Clifford's face. Get your own quotes, guys. #learnrespect.
- Tough loss for Martin St. Louis. Strike that -- tough losses. The guy has been hit hard this postseason. I think the weight of it all finally started to show over the last seven games. He had just two points and a minus-7 rating over that span. This loss will heal sooner than the other. Godspeed.
- The last word? I called the Kings back in March. But just so you know, that call was the first one I've nailed right in a decade of making predictions. The Stanley Cup is one of the hardest trophies to win and even harder to predict. Congrats to the Kings. And the Rangers, too. Well fought.
