Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Markus Anthony Howard was born on March 3, 1999 in Morristown, New Jersey and is the son of Chuck and Noemi Howard. His father Chuck was an All-American running back at Indiana University. Howard has two brothers, Desmond and Jordan, who both also played college basketball. Howard attended Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, where he teamed for one season with his older brother, Jordan. As a freshman at Perry, Markus posted 23 points per game, leading the team to the state semifinals and eventually committing to Arizona State. As a sophomore, he averaged 32.4 points per game and decided to decommit from Arizona State and re-open his recruitment. Howard transferred to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, where he played his final season of high school basketball. Howard reclassified to the class of 2016 and signed with Marquette University. Howard is a devout Christian who started a Fellowship of Christian Athletes club during his time at Marquette and studied digital media. Howard was a sensation at the college level, finishing his career as the Big East Conference's all-time leading scorer in conference play (1,405 points). Howard entered the starting lineup as a freshman and went on to average 13.2 points per game, while leading the nation in three-point percentage (54.7%). As a sophomore, he averaged 20.4 points per game and made Second Team All-Big East. As a junior, Howard was a preseason All-Big East selection. He recorded a pair of 45-point efforts during non-conference play, including a win over Buffalo in which he put up 40 points in the second half alone. In a win over Creighton on January 9, Howard scored a career-high 53 points, setting a new Big East single-game record. Howard became Marquette's all-time leading scorer during a win over Loyola (MD) during his senior season. With 51 points in a win over USC in November, Howard became the third player in NCAA history to have a 50-point game in three consecutive seasons. With averages of 27.8 points and 3.3 assists per game, Howard was a unanimous All-Big East First Team selection and a consensus First Team All-American as a senior.
