Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Dzanan Musa was born in 1999 in Bihac, a city situated on the banks of the river Una in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is the son of Rusmir and Saudina Musa. Dzanan has an older brother, Dzennis. He originally played soccer as a kid, but started playing junior basketball at eight. Musa was only 15 when he signed his first professional contract with the Croatian team Cedevita Zagreb. Musa made his EuroLeague debut on October 15th, 2015, making him the ninth-youngest player to accomplish this feat. Musa became the youngest international player taken in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft. Dzanan Musa was 15 years old when he signed his first professional contract with the Croatian team Cedevita Zagreb. During the 2015-16 season, as a 16-year-old, Musa played in 38 games across multiple tournaments. He posted 37 points in his last game for the KK Cedevita Junior Team in a win against the FC Bayern Munich Junior Team. He continued with Cedevita Zagreb in 2016-17, and appeared in 60 games (nine starts), averaging 9.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 18.6 minutes per game. Musa's numbers continued to improve during his third season with Cedevita Zagreb, his age-18 season. He played in 71 games (14 starts), averaging 12.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 23 minutes per game. Musa finished third in the Croatian League in scoring and was awarded the EuroCup Rising Star trophy. Overall, Musa led his team to three straight Croatian League championships and its first Adriatic League Supercup Championship in 2018.

Retreats to Europe

January 13, 2021
Musa signed a three-year contract Wednesday with Turkish club Anadolu Efes, EuroLeague.net reports.
ANALYSIS
A first-round pick by the Nets in 2018, Musa appeared in 49 games, averaging 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per contest between his two seasons in Brooklyn before he was dealt to Detroit during the offseason. Though the Pistons are seemingly in rebuilding mode, the 21-year-old evidently wasn't viewed as part of the organization's long-term plans, as he was waived at the conclusion of the preseason. With none of the league's other 29 teams opting to scoop up Musa, he'll return to the other side of the Atlantic and attempt to establish himself in the EuroLeague.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May not be done with NBA

Musa has taken his game to another level with Rio Breogan in Liga ACB this season, and a return to the NBA could be in the cards once he gains more experience, Eurohoops reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old flopped with Brooklyn after being taken with the 29th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, but Musa is starting to show the talent that got him drafted in the first place. In an interview with Israel Hayom, current teammate and former NBA player Mirza Teletovic said he's confident Musa will give it another try in North America. "He may have gone to the NBA too soon and been burned, but I believe he will return to the U.S. soon because he just needed more experience and more games to deal with the players. He saw what he was missing and now he is working on it in Europe," Teletovic said.

2018 Fantasy Outlook
Musa is just 19 years old and has been playing professionally with Cedevita in Europe for three years already. Most recently during the 2017-18 campaign, Musa played 71 games across three different leagues and averaged 12.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steal across 23.1 minutes. He shot a respectable 47.0 percent from the field, but he did noticeably struggle from deep and hit just 31.3 percent of his three-pointers. Still, Musa is prided for his elite scoring ability, which is what earned him a selection with the 29th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Nets. Still a bit thin and in need of better defensive coaching, Musa is expected to need some developmental time after coming over to the United States, so he'll likely struggle to see more than a handful of minutes most nights during the upcoming campaign. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising if the Nets opted to give him some run in the G-League in order to quicken the learning curve. Still, Musa's plethora of offensive moves, as well as impressive size (6-foot-9) and ability to play multiple positions, makes him an intriguing piece for the future. He'll likely only be in consideration for those willing to bet on his potential in dynasty leagues.
