Outrighted to Triple-A
The Mariners sent Milone outright to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The 36-year-old lefty was DFA'd last week to make room for the arrival of Isaiah Campbell, and the veteran will remain in the Mariners' organization after clearing waivers. Milone was doing well in Seattle with a 2.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through nine innings. However, it's uncertain if he'll appear in the big leagues again this season now that he doesn't hold a spot on the 40-man roster.

Milone pitched reasonably well for Baltimore in six starts last season, compiling a 3.99 ERA (3.85 FIP), 1.26 WHIP and 31:4 K:BB over 29.1 innings. The southpaw's showing was strong enough for Atlanta to acquire him in a midseason trade in which they yielded a pair of prospects. However those prospects turn out, it's safe to say that the Braves would like a do-over, as Milone imploded to the tune of 16 earned runs over 9.2 frames covering three starts before he was shut down with left elbow inflammation. As has been the case in recent years, Milone was hit hard by opposing batters, registering a 2.08 HR/9 and 42.9 Hard%. It's a testament to Milone's changeup that he notched the highest K-rate of his career (22.1%) despite firing one of MLB's slowest fastballs (86.1 mph), but he's still a below-average strikeout pitcher. Given his 5.80 ERA since 2016, Milone could struggle to find a landing spot in 2021.
