DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Ervin Santana, Min vs. KC (11,000): Santana isn't thought of as a strikeout pitcher, but the veteran worked to change that perception in August, as he notched a season-best 25.2 percent strikeout rate to go along with a 2.95 ERA over 39.2 innings. The 17.4 RAA Santana has registered with his slider is the fifth highest mark in the league among qualified pitchers, while the Royals have tallied a minus-20.1 RAA against the pitch.

Jose Urena, MIA vs. PHI ($7,500): There aren't many quality secondary pitchers on the main slate, but we can be fairly confident about Urena's floor in the matchup against the Phillies, who have the lowest wOBA in the league on the road this season. It is also worth noting that Urena has notched a 7.9 RAA with his slider, a pitch the Phillies have logged a bottom-10 mark against.

CATCHER

Robinson Chirinos, TEX vs. LAA ($3,500): Chirinos has shown big power against both sides of the platoon, but he appears to be a more complete hitter against lefties, as evidenced by the .426 wOBA he has tallied over 59 at-bats. Opposing starter Andrew Heaney struck out 10 batters in a dominant performance against the A's in his last outing, but it's difficult to trust him in a hitter's park, as he has allowed eight homers to right-handed hitters over 13.1 innings.

FIRST BASE

Carlos Santana, CLE at DET ($4,800):Chad Bell has thrown the ball well at Triple-A Toledo this season, but he hasn't fared well with the big club, allowing 27 runs (26 earned) over 42.2 innings while walking 20 batters in 19 games out of the bullpen. Meanwhile, Santana has notched a .189 ISO and a 32.5 percent hard contact rate against lefty pitchers.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs. TOR ($4,600): Schoop has teed off on lefties in 2017, notching a .305 ISO and .404 wOBA over 131 at-bats. Brett Anderson was able to hold the Red Sox to just one run over 5.2 innings in his Blue Jays debut but has still allowed a .500 slugging percentage to righties across 23.2 frames.

THIRD BASE

Nick Castellanos, DET vs. CLE ($4,100):Josh Tomlin has allowed a 1.7 HR/9 rate against right-handed hitters this season while surrendering a hard contact rate of 34.4 percent over 62.2 innings. Castellanos holds a 45 percent hard contact rate against same-handed pitchers, which should come in handy against a pitcher who is around the zone as much as Tomlin.

SHORTSTOP

Javier Baez, CHC vs. ATL ($3,700): Baez is a steal against left-handed pitchers at his price, as he has tallied a .297 ISO and a .400 wOBA against his opposite hand over 111 at-bats. Max Fried has walked more batters than he has struck out in 6.2 innings with the big club this season, and he held a 5.92 ERA in 19 starts with Double-A Mississippi.

OUTFIELD

Josh Reddick, HOU vs. NYM ($4,300): Reddick has registered a .193 ISO against right-handed pitchers in 2017 while keeping a 16.5 RAA against the fastball. Mets starter Chris Flexen has walked more left-handed batters than he has struck out over 15.1 innings, and he has allowed a .500 slugging percentage over that span.

Max Kepler, MIN vs. KC ($4,300):Ian Kennedy has had trouble keeping the ball in the park against left-handed hitters, allowing 15 homers in just 59.2 innings. This should work in our favor, as Kepler has a .234 ISO against right-handed pitchers across 342 at-bats.

Ryan Braun, MIL vs. WAS ($3,800): Braun struggled a bit in August, but still has a .214 ISO against right-handed pitchers. Edwin Jackson has kept a solid 3.33 ERA this season, but he may be worth picking against at Miller Park, as he has allowed a .542 slugging percentage in 27.1 innings on the road.
