FanDuel MLB: Wednesday's Targets

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday's Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

A few games were postponed Monday for a couple of different reasons and it's not uncommon to see games cancelled due to weather this early in the season. The main slate of games Wednesday features seven games starting at 7:05 P.M. EDT.

Pitching

Dustin May, LAD vs. COL ($9,000): May will be the popular choice Wednesday night as a huge favorite (-280) in a game tied for the lowest run total on the slate (eight runs). It was nice to see May score 52 fantasy points in his first outing and he now has a very favorable home matchup. The Rockies (in a limited sample) have only a .255 wOBP on the road against right-handed pitching to start the season (90 PAs).

Charlie Morton, ATL vs. MIA ($8,500): Morton is also a viable option given his home contest against the Marlins. Morton just scored 46 fantasy points at home against the Phillies and gets a Miami team that has a 26 percent strikeout rate and a .270 wOBA against right-handed pitching. This shows a team hitting poorly thus far and that has not had good judgment of the strike zone.

Rich Hill, TB vs TEX ($7,000): By now everyone should know the deal with Hill; he could leave the game within the first two innings, but he's also going to throw the occasional gem. He's a solid value here for GPPs and the Rangers have been a good team to target when a southpaw is on the mound. Texas has struck out 31.6 percent against lefties while having only a .257 wOBA.

Top Targets

Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. MIA ($4,100): Freeman has had a hot start to the season, scoring at least 18.2 fantasy points in five of his first 10 games, and he'll get a nice matchup against the Marlins' Nick Neidert. Neidert struggled in his first outing against the Mets and faces a taller task in his second big league start against the Braves. Freeman will look to homer for the fourth time in his last five games.

Kyle Tucker, HOU vs. DET ($3,600): Tucker should be hitting cleanup with three solid hitters in front of him, so at a minimum there should be a couple of RBI opportunities. While Michael Fulmer has been solid to start the season (2.57 ERA), this will only be his first start after beginning the year in the bullpen and he likely won't pitch deep into the game as a result. Vegas has Houston marked down for an implied total of six runs, showing they don't have a ton of confidence in Fulmer.

Kyle Seager, SEA at BAL ($3,500): Happy Matt Harvey Day! Harvey is way past being one of the top pitchers in the league and right now he's at best just an innings-eater for the Orioles. His 5.59 ERA through two starts is actually better than in three of his last four seasons. Seager had a .361 wOBA last season and a .389 wOBA the season before against right-handed pitching.

Value Bats

Nick Solak, TEX at TB ($2,800): If you're not going to use Hill, Solak should be on your radar. He should be batting fourth for the Rangers and has a good history against left-handed pitching. He has a career .368 mark and his duel 2B/OF gives him some positional flexibility, although using him at 2B makes more sense.

DJ Stewart, BAL vs. SEA ($2,700): Stewart has hit the ground running since returning, scoring 9, 12,2 and 12.7 fantasy points in his first three games back. Most notable is his good eye, as he's drawn four walks in 10 plate appearances. Justin Dunn is a work in progress and gives Stewart the favorable lefty-vs-righty matchup.

Travis d'Arnaud, ATL vs. MIA ($2,600): D'Arnaud should be in the cleanup spot and Atlanta is projected to score five runs in this game. The veteran catcher has had a solid start to the season, scoring at least 9.5 fantasy points in four of his first eight starts. An Atlanta stack would be a bit under the radar given the other options Wednesday.

Stacks To Consider

Rockies at May: Charlie Blackmon ($3,000), Ryan McMahon ($3,500), Garrett Hampson ($2,900), Raimel Tapia ($2,700)

On the road, the Rockies should be the least-used stack of the night. It's a very contrarian play given May's strong first start, but he's human and anyone can get lit up at any time. I'd only consider this for big tournaments and this could be an easy winner in single-entry GPPs.

Mariners at Harvey: Seager, Mitch Haniger ($3,200), Taylor Trammell ($2,800), Evan White ($2,300)

This is a continuation of my Harvey bashing as I can easily see him getting hit hard and not making it out of the second inning. White is the interchangeable piece here given his slow start, although he should be hitting cleanup. As a team Seattle has the sixth-best wOBA against right-handed pitching (.322) and third-best among teams playing on this slate.
